Share Your True Colors
Don't you just love the leaves changing colors in the fall? Here in the Midwest we are almost at the peak of leaf peeping season. The trees are showing their true colors ? glorious yellows, reds, and oranges. While they appear green during the spring and summer, those vibrant fall colors are always present, just not seen by us. As the bright green chlorophyll fades away for the winter, the autumn colored leaves are exposed, providing a beautiful gift to the landscape. People have hidden gifts, too. What skill or talent do you have that you aren't using every day? Make a list of these skills for your own reference. Here's a sample from my list:
Now, what is something you can do this week that uses one of your dormant talents? Is there a child or friend you can teach your skill? Doing one of these activities for yourself or others will energize you beyond belief. The trees are showing their true colors right now. A few years back, I went to London, England. I needed to get a passport-like photo taken, but the machine I wanted to use was out of order. When I called the company who owned the machine, I asked where they had another location. I was told, "Walrus." "Walrus?" I confirmed. "Walrus," was the response. I should have asked for the spelling, but the person had said, "Walrus." I asked around, and no one knew where there was a "Walrus" until, that is, someone realized that "Walrus" was "Woolworth's." Apparently, the person I spoke with and I both thought we were saying the same thing ? but boy, were we not! Stop Scoring Own Goals Own goals are actions, things we do, that stop us from reaching where we want to go or what we want to obtain. When we are out of focus, when we are out of tune with what's going on, when we do something which takes us in the opposite direction of where we were going or should be going, we have scored an own goal. Sometimes they happen accidentally, sometimes on purpose and sometimes simply because we try too hard. Finding Your Niche Why are there so much stress and unhappiness in the work force? One reason is that 95% of workers never find their niche. Most of them drift through life taking whatever job they can get. Although one can make a living in this manner, it would be much more enjoyable and profitable to find what fits your talents. Goals Can Take Years To Achieve Should goals take a long time? Achieve Your Goals By Doing Something About Them The title of this article sounds simplistic but it is amazing how often people (including me) sit staring at a problem like mounting paperwork and become so depressed by the thought of all the work to be done that they do nothing and continue in a paralytic state for days and even months! Look Where Youre Going - And Keep An Eye On The Blind Spots! I recently had the pleasure of motorcycle riding instruction from a friend, Tony, a professional racer. He was an outstanding instructor and provided some great experience-based insight into the more intricate details of motorcycle riding. I had always assumed that this is what I did, but I found out that there is a big difference between "watching" and "looking" where you're going. Goal-Mapping Goal-mapping is like a treasure hunt, you must first start out by knowing what you are looking for. Be very specific on what you want without limiting yourself. The next step is charting out what course of action you must take to get what you want. I encourage women to map out a treasure hunt on what they want in life, and to use that chart to reach their goals. That is exactly what I did to get my Ph.D. degree. I knew that I wanted to get my degree in psychology, and to write a book. My goal was to use my dissertation as a self-help book, and with the successful completion of my dissertation I could be awarded my degree. I enrolled in the Ph.D. program and completed all my core courses. Why Traditional Goal Setting Doesnt Work If you have a $100.000.000 in the bank, drive new Lexus, look like a movie star and have a perfect health save yourself some time and do not read this article. This article is for people, who don't have all these things, but are planning on changing that slight inconvenience.
